5 DIY to try during self isolation

5 DIY to try during self isolation

If you try to look on a bright side of life... thanks to spending evenings (or some of us entire days...) at home, maybe finally we all can find some time to try a few easy 'do it yourself' natural cosmetics recipes, using your leftovers or items about to go bad in your fridge. Here's a few I'm trying out. I'll keep it sweet and short, but if you have any questions, comment or get in touch with me.

Full body Leftover Coffee Scrub

Smells too good to be true. Easy to make. Once ready, you can use it to scrub your entire body (I even use it on my face). Watch out in your bath tub, it might get slippery ... :). Recipe: Mix 3 spoons of used coffee grounds (yes, those that you were about to throw out after brewing coffee) with 3 spoons of coconut oil and 1 spoon of brown sugar. Don't blend it, simply use a spoon to mix it. Once mixed, use as full body scrub:). Compost leftovers.

Two Ingredients Hand Scrub

Wash your hands ALL THE TIME they say... If you feel that your hands lack of moisturizing, make a hand scrub to get rid of scratchy feeling and moisturize after. Simply mix together 3 spoons of sugar with 3 spoons of olive oil. Rub in your hands, leave for few minutes, wash off and moisturize.

Speaking of washing hands, here's a link to our soaps with attitude if you need to stock up for coming days (weeks? months? who knows...)

Oatmeal Face Mask

Using oatmeal brings lots of benefits to our skin such as reduction of fine lines or simple boosts of vitamins E, B3. Using spoon, mix together 1/4 cup of oats, 1 table spoon of turmeric and 1 table spoon of oil (olive or coconut), you might need to add a little bit more oil to form a paste. Apply to your skin, wash off after 10 minutes. Hmmmm :)

Honey Banana Hair Mask

You can use this recipe if you have to many ripe bananas about to be wasted. Mix a ripe banana with table spoon of raw honey. Apply to your hair, leave for 20-30 minutes and wash it off. Use shampoo as usual. Honey has some antibacterial properties and bananas are full of vitamin A,B,C,E. Pure good.

And for not "as usual" you can try our shampoo bar from here.

Homemade Toothpaste

There are many homemade toothpaste recipes and the key is to find your favourite. For everyday use and travels I am using toothpaste tablets (that you can find here) but If I have no toothpaste at home (we, lazy people, we don't go shopping all the time... too exhausting), I am making my own toothpaste. Simple mix together 3 tablespoons of coconut oil, 1 table spoon of active charcoal and 5 drops of mint essential oil. Some recipes call for adding a table spoon of baking soda, but I don't really like it. Mix all ingredients and paste is ready to use. Keep far away from heat between uses, so it doesn't melt. Honestly, If you have an emergency and no ingredients at home, you can even use just coconut oil.

So, that's all for now.

Hope you are staying safe and healthy during those crazy times. Let me know if you tried any recipe and tag as along on social media if you do! :)

Please note: All the above recipes are a mix of some recipes I heard/ read/ found out and some modified over time. Please note that what's good for me, might not be great for other people, so if you have any allergies or diseases, please make sure you can apply them to your face or body, before you do. Make a test patch on your skin before using any of the recipes (in general, not only those).
